Two Kamloops Icons to Get Facelifts This Summer

Release date:
May 20, 2021

Kamloops, BC – Two downtown Kamloops icons will be getting a facelift this summer—the 3rd Avenue pedestrian bridge and Sandman Centre.

The City has hired Unitech Construction Management to perform maintenance on the 3rd Avenue pedestrian bridge, including:
•         concrete repairs
•         handrail safety improvements
•         plexiglass panels removal and replacement
•         concrete sealing
•         new paint

The pedestrian bridge has not been updated in over 20 years, and the new colour scheme will be a welcome sight in downtown.

The project will begin on Tuesday, May 25, with expected completion by mid-July. Hours of work will be Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–5:00 pm.

This project requires a full closure of the pedestrian bridge. Pedestrians are advised to use crossings at 2nd Avenue or 1st Avenue for the duration of the project. 3rd Avenue between Lansdowne Street and Lorne Street will be closed intermittently. Please obey all traffic control personnel and signage and use caution in the area. Access will be provided to adjacent businesses. The Sandman Hotel, Moxie's Grill & Bar, and Shark Club should be accessed via 2nd Avenue.

As part of this project, Sandman Centre will also be receiving a new paint job.
