Skate Rentals Now Available at Valleyview Arena

Release Date

Skate rentals are now available at Valleyview Arena due to a successful grant application by PLAYKamloops through the Kamloops Sports Legacy Fund. PLAYKamloops received $10,800 to purchase skates, skate guards, helmets, and cleaning materials. The City has secured an agreement with PLAYKamloops to extend equipment use to the general community to continue to offer accessible recreation to all residents.

“Thanks to the Kamloops Sports Legacy Fund grant, we were able to purchase skating equipment that allows more community members to explore the ice. Ice and snow are a wonderful part of our natural playground and an important part of the physical literacy journey in our area,” said Jodi Lebourdais, PlayCoordinator at PLAYKamloops. “Community partnerships are valuable to bring these projects to life and to allow the opportunity for residents to stay active through the winter season. We are really excited to have the City continue to support us with this initiative.”

The ability to offer skate rentals aligns with two service delivery goals of the Recreation Master Plan, adopted in 2019:

  • Diversity of Opportunities – Continuing to provide and support recreational opportunities that are appealing and beneficial for a multitude of ages, interests, and ability levels.
  • Inclusiveness – Recognizing the significant and broad-based benefits of participating in recreation, we will continue to focus on ensuring all residents have sufficient opportunities to access programs, activities, and spaces.

“I am excited to get this underway so that we can provide more opportunities for the public to take part in our public skate ice times at Valleyview Arena. These rentals will be a great way for patrons to try out ice skating before making the commitment of purchasing a pair of skates.,” said Chelsea Tekonomy, the City’s Active Living Coordinator. “Having rentals at our arenas has been a project I have been very passionate about getting started and am grateful for the partnership with PLAYKamloops to help us with the first steps in making this happen.”
