Kamloops BC – The second stage of upgrades to Island Parkway—commonly known as the ring road—at McArthur Island will start next week.
The upgrades, which are valued at approximately $350,000, include repaving 650 m of the northern section of road and pathway between 12th Street and the Kamloops Youth Soccer Association (KYSA) offices.
Work will begin the week of March 22, with an anticipated completion date of mid-April. Work will take place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. During this time, the ring road will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The road will reopen every evening at 5:00 pm until the following morning and will remain accessible on weekends. During the closure, pedestrians will have alternative access via the centre access road. The KYSA and Kamloops Sports Council offices will be offered access through the service road as well. Visitors to the park are encouraged to park at the east end near Norbrock Stadium or the Sport and Event Centre and walk to their destination using the service road. This project will not impact access to the vaccination clinic at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre.
The first phase of this project, which included repaving the southern section of the roadway and a new multi-use pathway, was completed in 2020.
Pedestrians and motorists are advised to use caution when using the detour road and to be mindful of sharing the roadway. As with all construction projects, motorists are asked to use caution when driving in the vicinity and to obey all traffic control personnel and signage.
