Ord Road Rock Stabilization Work to Begin

Release date:
January 10, 2020

The City of Kamloops has contracted BA Dawson Blacktop Ltd. to carry out rock stabilization work along Ord Road.

This project involves the drilling, blasting, and excavating of bedrock along the 2600 block of Ord Road in order to construct a rockfall catchment ditch. The work also includes rock scaling, rock bolt installation, and drainage modifications.

Work will begin the week of January 13, and completion is anticipated for spring 2020. Construction is scheduled to occur Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the possibility of some weekend work.

There will be full road closures of up to 20 minutes during blasting and scaling operations. Otherwise, traffic will be single-lane, alternating during construction. The contractor will use the east side of the Ord Road Dog Park parking lot for a laydown area.

As with all construction projects, motorists are asked to use caution when driving in the vicinity and to obey all traffic control personnel and signage.
