Online Dog Services More Than Just a Payment Portal

Kamloops, BC – Kamloops dog owners can now receive enhanced services through the MyCity service portal. Having a registered dog licence account on MyCity allows dog owners to apply for new dog licences; renew dog licences; replace a lost dog tags; update personal account information; and opt in to receive electronic dog renewal notices, invoices, and receipts directly to their email inbox.

The City of Kamloops is dedicated to reducing its impact on the environment while developing strategies to improve public service, respect physical distance, and realize efficiencies. The City is reminding residents of the following recent changes to the dog licensing program and options for payment:

  • e-Apply
    New dog owners can now apply for a licence online. Visit to begin your application.
  • e-Billing
    Register with MyCity to add a dog licence account and receive your annual licence renewal electronically. MyCity provides homeowners with access to detailed account information for tax, utility, and dog and business licence accounts; payment processing; and access to current and past bills and account payment history. Dog owners can register their dog licence accounts online and opt in at any time for electronic billing using the access code found on their most recent dog licence invoice. Register at
  • More payment options
    The City has launched new payment options through the online payment portal. Pay online at via credit card or with one of the new options—Visa/Mastercard Debit or Interac Online.
  • Payment deadline change reminder
    The payment deadline for renewing dog licences is December 31 each year. Each November, renewal notices for the following year are sent out. Dog owners are responsible for ensuring that their addresses on their dog licence accounts are up to date to avoid a late payment penalty of $32.50. The MyCity portal provides an easy way to update account information.

Residents are reminded that if a significant change in dog ownership occurs, such as rehoming or if the dog is deceased, the owner must contact Community Services directly at or 250-828-3409 to have the animal removed from the database and withdrawn from the licensing renewal process. This step is not available online.

Within city limits, all dogs six months or older require a licence. Having a registered dog licence has the following benefits:

  • dog identification service that allows the City to assist in reuniting you with your dog if it is lost or stolen
  • a discount on annual dog licence fees when dogs are spayed or neutered
  • avoiding fines and penalty fees
  • statistics on the number of dogs within the city to better assess the need for facilities and programs
  • $5 per annual licence fee reserved for future additions and upgrades to city dog parks
  • fees support animal control and regulatory services associated with pet ownership
