New PHO restrictions on individual fitness means changes at the TCC and Westsyde

Release date:
April 1, 2021

Kamloops, BC – The City of Kamloops has just learned there are updated Provincial Health Officer (PHO) restrictions on individual fitness, specifically related to physical distancing in gyms and the requirement for pre-registration.

These new restrictions will impact gym activities at the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC) and Westsyde Fitness Centre, no changes will be made to the pool operations at either facility. Fewer people will be allowed in each workout space, and no more drop-ins will be allowed - individuals will now be required to pre-schedule workouts. Masks will also be mandatory at all times including during exercise and the lockers and showers will no longer be accessible. These measures will be in place until at least April 19, as ordered by the Province. Pre-registration will be available through our online booking system under "Drop-in"

Physical Distancing Changes

The order has made changes to occupancy and spacing of equipment in exercise facilities (increased from 2 metres to 2.5 metres). These changes are being made over the next 24 hours at the Tournament Capital Centre and at the Westysde Fitness Centre. This requires physically moving each piece of exercise equipment and calculating new occupancy rates for each workout room/space.

Pre-registration Required

The new PHO order mandates pre-registration for individual fitness and cancels the option of unscheduled exercise. The City of Kamloops is currently setting up a registration process for timeslots of 1:15 mins with 15 minutes in between each booking for clearing and cleaning.

Both facilities are closed on Easter Friday. As of Saturday, April 3rd, all patrons to the TCC and Westsyde Fitness Centre must be scheduled in advance, no unscheduled visits allowed.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will do our best to make sure everyone who wants to enjoy our facilities can easily register. Registration is now available for Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday (closed Good Friday and Easter Monday) Further registration time slots will be available for booking on Tuesday morning. Register here.
