Upcoming changes to the CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program will make home energy efficiency improvements more affordable for low- and middle-income households in Kamloops.
Starting June 18, 2024, the updated program, formerly known as the CleanBC Income Qualified Program, will extend its benefits to include middle-income households and empower residents with rebate opportunities and resources to make energy-efficient upgrades, reduce energy consumption, and lower utility bills.
Key features of the Better Homes Energy Savings Program include:
- expanded eligibility to include middle-income households, ensuring a more inclusive program rebates covering 100% of the cost of a new heat pump, subject to a cap based on the type of heat pump
- increased maximum rebate for heat pumps from $9,500 to $16,000, supporting more extensive upgrades
- increased maximum rebate for electrical service upgrades needed to install a heat pump from $3,500 to $5,000 (plus a $500 top-up from the City of Kamloops) facilitating seamless installations
- free energy coaching and virtual energy assessments, providing personalized guidance
- rebates covering insulation, windows, and door upgrades
- multilingual support to help identify the best home upgrades and rebates, ensuring equal access for all
