Kamloops Museum and Archives Launches Mountain Bike Mecca

Release Date

On February 24, 2023, Kamloops Museum and Archives opens a new exhibition, Mountain Bike Mecca. All are welcome to attend the free opening reception on February 24 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The evening will feature a brief talk by one of Kamloops' earliest and best-known mountain bikers, Brett Tippie.

Mountain Bike Mecca invites conversation about the historic and contemporary presence of mountain biking in Kamloops. Having given rise to some of the best riders in the world, Kamloops is often considered a foundational place for freeride mountain biking.

Through photographs, video, and stories, the show will explore mountain biking’s history and relation to landscape in this region. With the aim of helping form a lasting record of this phenomenon, the show will also invite visitors, and especially local riders, to share their knowledge and experiences of mountain biking in Kamloops.

The Kamloops Museum and Archives will be hosting a series of activities in connection with Mountain Bike Mecca, including a panel discussion, a heritage bike tour, and bicycle crafts for families. For more information in the coming weeks on these programs, visit KamloopsMuseum.ca.

Mountain Bike Mecca will be open to the public from February 24 to June 10, 2023.

Kamloops Museum and Archives is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.
