Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) and the City of Kamloops are offering free FireSmart assessments to provide eligible Kamloops residents with recommendations on how they can lower the risk of damage to their home in the event of an interface fire.
Through a FireSmart assessment, residents will learn practical ways they can help reduce the risk of wildfire near their home and provide a better opportunity for firefighters to defend their home. Many of these preventative measures cost very little and can potentially reduce fire dangers by a great deal. Others require planning and long-term commitment to change. FireSmart assessments are for education purposes only and there is no obligation for residents to complete any recommendations identified in the assessment.
To help create FireSmart properties, the City of Kamloops is also offering free chipping and chip removal of eligible materials to the first 50 residents that book an assessment. Only FireSmart materials identified at the time of the assessment will be chipped and removed; other yard waste is not included.
To request an assessment, email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, address, and phone number. KFR and City staff will practise social distancing measures when performing the assessments, and instructions will be emailed to the homeowner when the appointment is booked.
