Kamloops Fire Rescue is looking for fit, motivated citizens who are committed to serving their community as career firefighters. In preparation for the ability to apply to be a firefighter within the city, candidates are encouraged to review the application requirements, forms, and process before the job competition opens on Friday, July 15, 2022.
“Competition for firefighting employment in BC is fierce. By providing a notice of interest to candidates, the two-week period allows a candidate to gather all the appropriate information, forms, and tests that are needed to submit for a career position.” said Scott Johnson, Assistant Chief Operations for Kamloops Fire Rescue. “The time provided allows one to triple check that they have all the materials required, as physical consent forms are also involved.”
Candidates should possess courage, dedication, integrity, assertiveness, and a willingness to learn new skills and face new challenges. The fire service is one of the most diverse and challenging professions. It is this diversity that inspires individuals to become a career firefighter. Firefighters cope with situations that range from structure fires to motor vehicle accidents as well as medical calls which may be needed at any time of day, seven days a week, in any kind of weather, and very often under potentially stressful and emotionally charged circumstances. Due to these reasons the recruitment process is detailed, physical, challenging, and highly competitive.
Interested applicants are encouraged to review the recruitment checklist and download the forms required to submit once the job competition opens. The deadline to apply is July 29, 2022. Full details are available at Kamloops.ca/KFR.
