Kamloops Fire Rescue has an exciting opportunity for community-minded individuals interested in joining our paid on-call firefighter program.
Currently, Kamloops Fire Rescue has a dedicated team of paid on-call firefighters across two stations:
- Fire Station No. 5, Heffley Creek Road, serving Rayleigh and Heffley Creek
- Fire Station No. 6, 5300 Dallas Drive, serving Dallas and Barnhartvale
Kamloops Fire Rescue is seeking motivated, physically fit individuals who are eager to serve their community as paid on-call firefighters. Paid on-call firefighters support the services provided by full-time firefighters to prevent loss of life or property. Duties and responsibilities include responding to fires and emergencies in the designated service area, routine apparatus maintenance, and weekly training.
While training will be provided, preference will be given to candidates with prior National Fire Protection Association accreditation, skills, and experience.
Interested candidates can obtain a comprehensive manual detailing the selection criteria and testing requirements, application form, and medical clearance form online at Kamloops.ca/Recruitment. Forms will also be available from Fire Station No. 1, 1205 Summit Drive, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm.
The screening and application process will span approximately six to eight weeks and will include:
- obtaining the application, application manual, and medical clearance form and submitting the completed application and medical clearance form to Kamloops Fire Rescue before 4:00 pm on September 20, 2024
- completing the physical abilities test on October 18 or 19 (medical clearance is required)
- participating in interviews
- undergoing the selection process, which includes reference checks, submitting a driver’s licence abstract, and a criminal record check
- completing a medical evaluation
Applicants who are offered a position will undergo training and a probationary period. Candidates must reside within the City Kamloops within three months (prior to completion of recruit training) of starting with the department. Candidates living within a 10-minute drive time of an auxiliary fire station will be given preference.
Two orientation sessions will be held for interested candidates to learn more about the position and recruitment process:
- Fire Station No. 5 in Rayleigh at 6:00 pm on September 4, 2024
- Fire Station No. 6 in Dallas at 6:00 pm on September 11, 2024
