Kamloops, BC – Construction has started on a bridge to replace the washed-out section of Old Highway 5 in Heffley Creek. The City of Kamloops has contracted Acres Enterprises Ltd. to construct the bridge and reinstate the roadway by spring 2018.
Storm events in early May caused significant damage to the Heffley Creek channel and Old Highway 5. In response, the City engaged a consulting engineering firm to evaluate the options and determine the best solution for reinstating the channel flow, the utilities, and the roadway. They determined that a bridge is the best solution for the long-term viability of the channel and the road.
“We understand that this road closure has been an inconvenience for the community of Heffley Creek,” says Darren Crundwell, the City’s Capital Projects Manager. “We’ve been working diligently to adhere to the schedule we presented to residents at the open house in July and are on track to meet those dates.”
The construction site will be closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic until construction is complete, and residents are asked to avoid the area. Project updates can be found at kamloops.ca/capitalprojects.
