Get Up, Get Out, and Get Active on National Health and Fitness Day

Release date:
June 5, 2020

Saturday, June 6, is National Health and Fitness Day, and the City of Kamloops is encouraging residents to get up, get out, and get active. This national initiative celebrates Canada’s commitment to health and fitness and takes us one step closer to becoming the fittest nation on Earth.

“We know it’s been challenging for some residents to stay active during the pandemic,” said Linda Stride, the City’s Recreation, Health and Wellness Supervisor. “Now, more than ever, we need to keep moving to stay healthy, both mentally and physically."

This year’s celebration has been modified to provide a number of ways to participate during the pandemic. Locally, the City is providing free access to the indoor track at the Tournament Capital Centre from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday. Residents are reminded to practise physical distancing and to bring their own water bottles as fountains are turned off. Change rooms and lockers are not available at this time.

In addition, Kamloops residents have the unique opportunity to join several national virtual events, including free workshops and workouts hosted by partner organizations. Residents can also showcase how they’re celebrating through a photo contest on the City’s Parks and Recreation Facebook page for a chance to win prizes.
