Fall GoByBike Weeks set for September 27–October 10

Release Date

Kamloops, BC - The City of Kamloops is encouraging residents to grab their bikes and get cycling for the upcoming Fall GoByBike Weeks (formerly Bike to Work and School Week). Riders can register and log their kilometres on GoByBikeBC.ca

“This fall event offers an additional week of cycling compared to the Spring GoByBike week,” explained Dewi Evans, the City’s Community and Wellness Event Coordinator.

“People enjoy riding for so many reasons beyond biking to work and school, and we’re excited that riders have an extended opportunity to participate.”

The Fall 2021 GoByBike event encourages participants to hop on their bike for any reason—to ride to work, to school, to run errands, for fun, for exercise, to stretch their legs, or simply to clear their mind—as the event also promotes riding as a way to get active, lower stress, and improve mental health.

“This year, due to COVID-19, we have limited opportunities for in-person gatherings, group rides, and social events. As a result, the event is focused on promoting any kind of riding, whether you replace a motor vehicle trip for an environmentally friendly journey, active transportation, or simple enjoyment,” said Evans.

During Fall GoByBike Weeks, the City is once again sponsoring free transit for cyclists. BC Transit buses are equipped with easy-to-use bike racks to secure your ride, and transit fare is complimentary to bike riders with a helmet during this two-week-long event.

Free Webinar on Fall and Winter Cycling
For those who are new to fall riding or anyone wanting to learn some tips, Hub Cycling will be hosting a free webinar on cycling in fall and winter riding conditions on October 12, 6:00–7:00 pm. Participants will learn about outfitting their bikes and themselves for fall and winter riding, advanced cycling safety, cold-weather care for their bikes, and route planning considerations.

“The webinar is a great opportunity for Kamloopsians to learn how to tackle the winter riding conditions and extend their biking season in Kamloops,” said Evans. Visit BikeHub.ca or the Eventbrite page for links to register for the webinar.

Fall GoByBike Prizes
Participants can enter to win some great prizes from GoByBike BC, including a two-night getaway to Panorama, BC, and a grand prize cycling adventure for two in France. Riders can enter the prize draw with only one ride but receive additional entries the more they ride.
In addition to GoByBike BC’s participant prizing, residents can get active and have fun on a GoByBike Kamloops social media scavenger hunt.

Facebook users can tag @GoByBikeKamloops and Instagram users can tag @GoByBike.Kamloops to enter to win prizes by playing along and taking photos at specific landmarks and locations throughout the city. Scavenger hunt details can be found at Maps.Kamloops.ca/BikeToWork.
