Council Pauses Downtown Truck Route Pilot Project

Release Date

Following the Regular Council Meeting on November 26, 2024, City Council has decided to pause the current downtown Truck Route Pilot Program due to safety, environmental, and timing concerns.

The City will conduct a comprehensive city-wide truck route study in 2025 to assess the impacts of large trucks and dangerous goods routes throughout the city. Council wishes to review the findings of that study before making any decisions on reestablishing the truck route pilot project, which would result in decommissioning both Lansdowne Street and Seymour Street as truck routes.

The loss of the Red Bridge and other traffic pattern changes have also played a part in Council’s decision to delay the pilot project.

As of November 27, City crews will begin removing any truck restriction signage that had been deployed for the pilot.
