The City of Kamloops continues to support the Customer Care and Patrol (CAP) Team’s expansion to the North Shore by contributing $25,000 towards the service for 2019.
The CAP Team is well established in the Downtown and provides assistance to citizens, businesses, and tourists. The expansion to the North Shore allows the pedestrian-oriented community ambassadors to provide that same friendly service on North Shore corridors.
The North Shore CAP Team was established in 2018 thanks to financial support from the City of Kamloops and operational support from the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association (KCBIA).
“We are proud to be supporting this program again so that we can continue to support North Shore businesses, residents, and visitors,” said Mayor Ken Christian.
“The City’s contribution is to ensure the program continues while the North Shore Business Improvement Association (NSBIA) works to include permanent funding in its levy renewal with its members, which is expected by 2020.”
KCBIA Executive Director Carl DeSantis echoed the Mayor’s statement. “CAP Team members are easily recognized as downtown community ambassadors. They provide valuable services to businesses, locals, visitors, and tourists, and we are pleased to again support the NSBIA with this partnership throughout the summer,” he said.
NSBIA Executive Director Jeremy Heighton acknowledged the strong partnership between the business improvement associations and the City. “We are thankful for the level of support for the North Shore CAP Team and from our partners at the City and KCBIA. The CAP Team program is an example of how we are responding to our entire community’s needs through the implementation of collaborative solutions,” he said.
The service will include two full-time North Shore CAP Team members. They will conduct North Shore patrols as follows:
- May 15–August 31, Tuesday–Saturday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm
- September 1–30, Thursday–Saturday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm
The CAP Team is made up of young adults who are either students (high school or post-secondary) or recent graduates from a wide variety of backgrounds. These ambassadors provide a variety of customer/business services and spend time patrolling to promote a safer and friendlier community. Team members have the opportunity to work on specific projects relevant to the community that suit their interests. This program gives students career-related experience and assists them in developing of a broad range of skills.
