Kamloops, BC - A City water main broke earlier tonight at approximately 5:00 pm at 4th Avenue and Columbia Street due to the recent cold temperatures. Although initially suspected to be a private water main, it has now been determined to be a City main that ruptured, located under a sidewalk in the northeast corner of 441 Columbia.
Columbia Street, 3rd and 4th Avenues were affected with surges of water. City Streets crews have been working on clearing the water and ice from these streets and will continue to monitor the roads throughout the night. However, drivers should use caution when in the area.
Interior Health has reported that Ponderosa Lodge has experienced some water damage, and Glenfair Estates is currently out of water but has not been impacted by any flooding.
City crews are working through the night and the City estimates the situation will be resolved by Friday morning and will provide updates as they become available.
