The City of Kamloops Recreation, Social Development, and Culture Division is seeking applications from Kamloops residents who are interested in serving on the newly established Accessibility Engagement Group on a voluntary basis.
Equity, diversity, and inclusion are priorities for the City, with the goal being one of the most accessible, inclusive cities in Canada.
Under the Accessible BC Act, effective September 1, 2023, municipalities are required to develop an accessibility plan and establish an Accessibility Engagement Group. As per the Accessible BC Act there is a requirement that at least half of the Accessibility Engagement Group members should identify as persons with disabilities or represent organizations that serve them, and the group should have Indigenous representation.
Members of the public with lived experience and a desire to advocate for accessibility are encouraged to apply.
The Accessibility Engagement Group will assist and support the Accessibility Working Group with the development of the City’s new Accessibility Plan. The group assists and supports the Accessibility Working Group by, among other things:
• providing input and feedback for the Accessibility Working Group’s activities
• identifying opportunities to remove barriers to accessibility at the City of Kamloops
• providing input into the City’s new Accessibility Plan
If you are interested in applying for a position on the Accessibility Engagement Group, please submit an online application at Kamloops.ca/Volunteer or phone 250-828-3582 by 4:00 pm on April 3, 2023.
For specific information related to the Accessibility Engagement Group, please contact Ben Chobater, Community Development Coordinator, at 250-828-3582.
