City of Kamloops Reopens Barnhartvale Landfill and Yard Waste Depot

Release date:
August 25, 2017

Kamloops, BC – The Barnhartvale Landfill and Yard Waste Depot will reopen effective 8:30 am on Saturday, August 26.

“Kamloops Fire Rescue has advised us that the recent weather and current forecast have reduced the operational risk at the landfill,” says Glen Farrow, the City’s Streets and Environment Services Manager.

The landfill was closed on August 5 in accordance with the BC Wildfire Act due to its proximity to the dry, grassy hills. As operations resume, site staff will continue to implement their fire mitigation plan.

“While procedures may be modified to reduce fire risk, service levels will be back to normal tomorrow,” Farrow says.

The Barnhartvale Landfill and Yard Waste Depot is open Friday to Monday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The facility accepts residential solid waste and recyclables, including mixed recycling, tires, and scrap metal. The City of Kamloops thanks residents for their co-operation and understanding through this unprecedented fire season.
