City of Kamloops Invites the Community to Design Downtown Week

Release date:
June 6, 2018
Kamloops, BC - Following the launch of the Downtown Plan review and update process in May, the City continues to gather ideas about the Downtown. At open houses and pop-up stations, residents shared their vision and big ideas for the Downtown and provided feedback on key issues and opportunities. City staff have received this input, and now we are going back out to the public with a pair of events to gather more feedback during the Design Downtown Week!

Residents are invited to discuss planning and urban design in the Downtown at two events taking place next week. RSVP to letstalkdowntown@kamloops.ca to register for the events.

Wednesday, June 13
Design Downtown: Public Lecture on Planning and Urban Design
When: 7:00-9:00 pm
Where: Paramount Theatre, 504 Victoria Street
Details: Free event with door prizes

This presentation on planning and urban design will be followed by a moderated panel discussion with audience Q&A. This is a great opportunity to learn and share ideas about how the Downtown can become more vibrant, attractive, and walkable through urban design.

Saturday, June 16
Design Downtown: Community Open House
When: 2:00-5:00 pm
Where: Rivers Room, Hotel 540, 540 Victoria Street
Details: Free event with snacks and beverages provided

This event will feature draft design concepts and sketches of key sites and corridors with redevelopment potential throughout the Downtown. The draft design concepts will be based on community and stakeholder input received thus far in the Downtown Plan planning process. This is an interactive event during which participants will review and discuss the draft concept ideas with a design team and City staff.
