The Downtown Plan review and update process is nearing completion. The Downtown Plan is an update to City Centre Plan 2005, and it will provide a framework to guide planning and land use management for the Downtown, Sagebrush, and West End neighbourhoods over a 20-year time frame.
Last year, the City engaged residents on the vision, key issues, and potential development concepts for the Downtown. Based on this feedback, the City has developed a draft Downtown Plan, which includes a vision and key principles, policies to guide land use planning, and design guidelines to regulate the form and character of development. The plan also identifies “big moves” as potential ideas to realize the Downtown Plan’s vision.
To obtain feedback on the draft plan, the City is hosting a community workshop—open to all residents—that will consist of roundtable discussion and a participant Q&A session. Residents will be encouraged to discuss the plan’s contents, ideas, and action items. Specifically, residents will be asked to comment on whether the draft plan got it right, and if there is anything that is missing that should be included in the plan.
Feedback from the community workshop will be used to make revisions prior to presenting the final plan to Council for adoption later this year.
