Kamloops, BC – In response to fluctuating air quality conditions in Kamloops, the City of Kamloops will delay the regular shutdown of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre until mid-December. Most years, the pool is shut down for maintenance two weeks prior to the Labour Day long weekend. This year, the pool will close on Sunday, September 3 for one day of cleaning and general maintenance. It will also be closed on Monday, September 4 for the statutory holiday.
Parks and Civic Facilities Manager, Jeff Putnam, recognizes the air quality in Kamloops continues to fluctuate and that residents will continue to look for indoor activities until the smoke clears. He said, “we are happy to be able to hold off on regular maintenance until later this year to ensure that Kamloops residents and visitors can access indoor activities.”
Residents will be provided with advanced notice when the dates for the December shut down are confirmed.
The City would also like to remind evacuees who are staying in Kamloops that they can swim and shower for free at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Evacuees will need to show valid ID.
