Summer is just around the corner, and what better way to enjoy summer than to throw a party for your neighbourhood! The City of Kamloops and FortisBC have teamed up again to bring block parties to Kamloops. Block parties are a great way to get to know your neighbours and neighbourhoods better. There was a great response last year.
Block party funding is available to any Kamloops resident who wants to organize a block party. The funding is applied for through the City’s Neighbourhood Matching Fund program. Successful applicants will receive up $1,750 to cover the cost of food, music, and entertainment. Only four grants will be awarded and applications are due June 7, 2019.
FortisBC and the City fund these block parties to help neighbourhood associations and community members to build community by bringing people together. FortisBC has rebates to help customers save energy and energy-related costs, and representatives will be at events to talk about the available programs, such as rebates for energy‑efficient home renovations.
For more information on the block party funding, contact Derek de Candole, the City’s Community Energy Specialist. Contact information for last year’s successful applicants is available for media inquiries upon request. Request an application form on the City’s website at Kamloops.ca/BlockParty.
