The Todd Road Pedestrian Upgrades Project involves improvements to Todd Road between Klahanie Drive and Ronde Lane to improve pedestrian and motorist safety, including the following:
- constructing a raised concrete sidewalk (uphill side)
- installing concrete curbing (downhill side)
- maintaining intersection widths
- installing a crosswalk on Todd Road near Ronde Lane
- improving bus stops
- repaving the road
- installing additional lighting, where possible
- constructing retaining walls, where required
“Todd Road is identified as a high priority in both the City’s 2013 Pedestrian Master Plan and the 2018 Transportation Master Plan. This project will significantly improve pedestrian safety on Todd Road, which, in turn, will improve neighbourhood connectivity and walkability,” said Darren Crundwell, the City’s Capital Projects Manager.
Phase 1 of construction started this week. Project completion is anticipated for the end of September 2019.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to occur Monday–Saturday, 7:00 am–5:00 pm, with additional night and weekend work being planned as required. During Phase 1, Todd Road between Klahanie Drive and Sunrise Drive will be limited to local traffic only, with single-lane, alternating traffic. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the construction zone.
Kamloops Transit Route No. 17 will be rerouted between lower Lamar Drive and upper Lamar Drive, starting May 21. For more information and to sign up for email alerts for notification of route changes, temporary closures, etc., visit BCTransit.com/Kamloops. There will be minimal impact to high school bus service. School District bus drivers will inform students of any changes to pickup/drop-off locations.
While every attempt will be made to minimize the impact on residents, motorists, transit users, and pedestrians during construction, delays and congestion are inevitable and should be expected.
Throughout the project, construction updates will be available at LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/ToddRoad, where residents can also register for email updates and/or follow the project.
