The City would like your ideas for the future use of the former McArthur Island Golf Course land.
In October 2017, the City of Kamloops finalized an agreement to regain the property at 1500 Island Parkway and is now seeking public input on what to do with the former McArthur Island Golf Course property.
Local developer Bill Bilton has held the property's lease since 1992 while operating the McArthur Island Golf Course. Declining demand was further complicated by flooding in spring 2017, and Bilton made the difficult decision to close the course and end his lease with the City.
To determine how to best utilize the 6.04 ha in the future, the City is seeking public input.
The public input will be collected and compiled during the winter and will conclude in spring 2018. Until a plan is in place, the former golf course property will be closed to the public for safety reasons, and the existing golf course buildings will be used by the City's Parks Operations Section.
After the conclusion of the open houses and online survey:
- analyse all public input received
- highlight the top five or six suggestions
- prepare a draft plan based on the input received
- present the plan to Council
- prepare an implementation plan for developing the park
