Drowning is fast and silent, often occurring in less than 30 seconds. The age groups with the highest risk of drowning are young adults 20-34 years of age, baby boomers 50‑64 years of age and seniors over 65.
Due to COVID-19 and high water, the National Drowning Prevention Week training event has been cancelled.
Residents who work alongside waterways, culverts, and riverbanks are asked to stay as far back from the banks as possible and to use extreme caution. Banks may be unstable as high-flowing water can cause erosion under the visible surface.
