See the Heat

thermal imaging, FLIRcamera, draft proofingThe See The Heat program provides the opportunity to take home a thermal imaging camera that connects to your smart phone to learn more about the energy efficiency of your home.  A thermal imaging camera allows you to see how well your house is insulated, how well doors and windows seal, what plug in’s and outlets are particularly leaky, and the effects of leaving chimney flues open when not in use.

Thermal images are an interesting way to see your house in a new light, and learn about the opportunities that you might have to improve the comfort and energy performance of your house.

How to Participate

The thermal imaging camera may be borrowed by any Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) patron in good standing.  Cameras are loaned for a maximum of seven days.

When you participate in the program, along with the loaned camera and its components, you are given a free draft-proofing kit which contains:

  • Electrical switch and outlet draft insulators
  • Window insulation
  • Weather stripping (for doors or windows)

There are also instructions which can be downloaded here for how to get the most out of your time with the camera.

Note: Due to high demand cameras are loaned for a maximum of seven days.  There is a late fine of $1 per day.  The replacement cost for lost or damaged cameras are $303 for the FLIR iOS and $384 for the FLIR Android.

This opportunity is developed through a partnership with the City of Kamloops, Thompson Nicola Regional Library, and with financial support from FortisBC.

Survey

When you are finished with your draft proofing kit and camera, please take a moment and fill out this survey!  Those who participate will be entered into a draw to win one of two FortisBC blankets, or one of two FLIR portable battery packs.
