Project Scope

The City of Kamloops will be conducting utility and road works as well as pedestrian upgrades on Fleetwood Avenue between Southill Street and Desmond Street. We are advising residents in the area that this work is scheduled to begin May 25 and will encompass the following scope of work:

  • water service replacements;
  • water main replacements;
  • new drainage infrastructure;
  • sanitary upgrades;
  • pedestrian sidewalk; and
  • road reconstruction.

Resident Impacts

Throughout the construction period, vibratory compaction equipment may be in use; therefore, any fragile items should be packaged or protected from damage due to vibration. There may also be noise disruption due to equipment on site.

In order to perform utility works, there will be frequent water interruptions. Expect intermittent water shutdowns of three hours or less during this portion of the project. When possible we will inform residents daily of longer duration water shutdowns in excess of three hours. We recommend that residents store a quantity of water for use during the longer duration periods.

Garbage collection will not be affected.

Hours of Work

Work will begin on May 25 and is expected to be complete in October. Construction is scheduled to occur Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–4:00 pm. Some evening or weekend work may be required.

Traffic Impacts

Fleetwood Avenue, between Southill Street and Desmond Avenue, will be closed for the duration of the project, with the exception of local traffic.

Driveway access to residents may be temporarily restricted during construction. Residents are advised that off-street parking may not be accessible at times during construction and to plan ahead by moving vehicles to adjacent streets before work commences Monday to Friday. On-street parking is not permitted during working hours on weekdays.

Please obey all traffic control personnel and equipment when driving in the vicinity of the construction.

Transit Route 2: Parkcrest will be detoured with regular traffic, with temporary stops as shown below. Visit bctransit.com/Kamloops for the most up to date impacts.
