Third Avenue Railway Crossing

Kamloops, B.C. - Increased railway safety on Third Avenue is a priority for the City of Kamloops, CP Rail and Transport Canada.  All agencies have worked together to address safety concerns at the Third Avenue rail crossing.  In order to avoid full closure of Third Avenue between Lansdowne and Lorne Streets or expensive traffic control personnel, pedestrians will be required to cross the railway tracks via the pedestrian bridge after major events at the Sandman Centre and Riverside Park (i.e. Blazers games, concerts, major festivals).  Bylaw staff will be on site during these events to allow those with physical disabilities to cross at ground level via the sidewalk.

The report outlining these procedures is attached.

While this solution results in a minor inconvenience for pedestrians, ensuring public safety and maintaining the roadway for vehicle traffic is a priority.
