Inspections and Assessments Undeway in Flooded Westsyde Area

Kamloops, B.C. – The City of Kamloops Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) held a briefing at 9:00 a.m. this morning to determine next steps in managing the flood impacts from the rain event of June 30th.

BC Safety Authority, Fortis BC, BC Hydro and the City's Building Inspection Division are on site undertaking a visual inspection of the impacted properties. Fortis anticipates the inspections may take until Friday, July 3rd to complete. Gas will remain off until this has occurred. Once Fortis has authorized the gas to be returned to service, residents will be required to contact a gas contractor to reignite gas appliances. Fortis will leave a notice to this effect on properties where inspections have been completed. BC Hydro will return power to properties that did not suffer electric damage as they work through their inspections.

The City's Emergency Social Services Reception Centre is open today from 11:30 am - 4:00 pm at the Kamloops Yacht Club located at 1140 River Street. Evacuees who have not registered with the Centre are asked to do so at this location. Evacuees are also invited to call the EOC's public information line at 250-828-3895 or monitor local media for further information.

The City of Kamloops is authorizing Westsyde residents to drop natural debris (mud, rocks, branches, etc.) at no charge at the Mission Flats Landfill until July 13th. Residents will be required to provide identification with proof of address.
