Rain Event Update

Kamloops, B.C. – Work to address flooded areas in the Westsyde area of Kamloops continues. Heavy equipment including vactor trucks to remove water on are on scene at the Oak Hills Trailer Park. BC Hydro is also on site and has shut off power to the park allowing City crews to safely reach and respond to high water areas. Culverts plugged by debris have been cleared and catch basins are draining resulting water reductions.

Approximately 60 homes in the area have been evacuated with evacuees starting to arrive at the Emergency Reception Centre at the Interior Savings Centre Parkside Lounge.

The public is asked to avoid Westsyde Road unless absolutely necessary and limit travel for local traffic only. Reports of storm observers are creating additional unnecessary congestion in area. Traffic control personnel is managing traffic flow. Two lanes on Westsyde Road are now open, one in either direction.
