Kamloops, B.C. - The Kamloops Youth Soccer Association will host its first-ever national youth soccer championship this week from October 9th to 14th.
The event, which will bring together ten boys provincial club champions and twelve girls provincial cup-winning teams for six days of competition, is the 2013 Canadian Soccer Association Sport Chek National Club Championships - U16 Cup.
While Kamloops does not have an entry in the U16 Cup, the event promises to showcase an excellent calibre of soccer, all of which is free to spectators. The Sport Chek National Championships - U16 Cup is being staged entirely on McArthur Island, on Fields 1, 2, 4 and 5, with the girls and boys finals being held Monday, October 14th, on Field 2 at 9:30 am and 12 noon respectively.
In the 2013 competition, BC is being represented by Surrey United FC on the boys side and Fusion Football Club and Coquitlam Soccer Club on the girls side. BC's entries qualified for the 2013 Sport Chek National Club Championships in late June through the Provincial Premier Cup which was held at South Surrey Athletic Park.
One of the benefits of hosting a competition of this magnitude is that local game officials will have the opportunity to obtain valuable game experience. Out of the pool of 30 officials that will be used during the competition, the Kamloops Soccer Referees Association is providing 16. This is a great accomplishment for the KSRA and its members.
