Kamloops, B.C. - The City of Kamloops will soon begin the process of repairing the external walls of the Tournament Capital Centre Fieldhouse building. These repairs will address ongoing water ingress problems occurring during the fall and winter months in the west concourse and upper hallway areas of the building.
In 2012, the City of Kamloops hired industry experts in building envelope technology to investigate the cause of the water ingress and to make repair recommendations. During this process, which concluded in August 2013, the specific causes of the water ingress were attributed to aspects of both the design and the original construction of the building. As a result, the City of Kamloops will be engaging contractors to remove the exterior wall cladding of the building and make the necessary repairs.
This process is expected to take four to five months and will not impact the day-to-day operations of the building nor affect the customer experience in any way. The estimated cost to perform this construction work is $855,000. The City of Kamloops is seeking the cooperation and participation of both the designer of the facility, Stantec Architecture Ltd., and the general contractor, D & T Developments Ltd., in the remediation process and will otherwise pursue recovery of its repair costs from those parties through legal action.
