Interior Savings Unplug and Play for Family Literacy Week

Kamloops, B.C. - Interior Savings Unplug and Play Family Literacy week takes place from January 20th to 27th, 2013 in support of Family Literacy Day®, an annual initiative developed by ABC Life Literacy Canada to encourage parents and children to spend at least 15 minutes a day enjoying a learning activity.

Literacy in Kamloops (LinK), in partnership with the City of Kamloops, School District 73, the Kamloops Daily News and many other organizations, has planned events that encourage families to build literacy by reconnecting and playing together. A schedule of these free events and activities will be published in a supplement in the Kamloops Daily News on January 19th. Activities include free swimming, skating, dancing, story times, games night, literacy Lego, Mother Goose swim and much more.

The week will see the culmination of the 4th Annual Heap the Honda Children's Book Drive. Residents can donate new or gently used children's books to the annual event by dropping them off at Kamloops Honda, YM/YWCA locations, the TNRD libraries, Starbucks locations and Interior Saving branches.

On Wednesday January 23rd, at 7:00 pm, guest speaker Vince Gowmon is presenting a Playnote "Remembering to Play - Inspiring Joy, Freedom and Self-Care" at TRU Alumni Clock Tower. Admission is by donation to Loonies for Literacy. More information on Vince is available at www.rememberingtoplay.com.

A special screening of the award-winning film PLAY AGAIN, which explores the consequences of a childhood removed from nature, takes place on Thursday, January 24th, at 7:00 pm at the Paramount Theatre. Admission is by donation to Loonies for Literacy. Additional information about the film is available at www.playagainfilm.com.

The 7th Annual ABC Family Literacy Day in Kamloops will take place January 26th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Henry Grube Education Centre. Families can enjoy a number of fun free activities. Starbucks will be serving free coffee. All family members are welcome and each child receives a free book courtesy of the 4th Annual Heap the Honda Book Drive.
