River reopens but boat launch remains closed

Kamloops, B.C. - This morning the RCMP lifted the previous restriction for boat traffic on the South Thompson River between the Red Bridge and the confluence of the North Thompson River. Watercraft users are reminded to exercise caution due to navigational hazards and respect that boating activity can have an impact on private property erosion.

High water has resulted in damage to the Thompson Drive boat launch, and until the water recedes and a full risk assessment can be completed, the boat launch will remain closed until further notice. The Pioneer Park and McArthur Island boat launches are open to the public.

With the gabion baskets and fencing currently coming down at Riverside Park, the beach and waterfront area will reopen on Saturday, July 21st. The swimming area is closed until further notice due to high water levels and floating debris. The City will continue to monitor this area and will open it as soon as it is safe to do so.
