Kamloops, B.C. - With declining river levels, the City of Kamloops is opening the McArthur Island boat launch on Thursday, July 5th at 8:00 a.m. The Pioneer Park and Thompson Drive (Valleyview) boat launches remain closed while the river closure from the North and South Thompson Rivers confluence east to Lafarge is in effect. Boaters are asked to take care while on the rivers and use extreme caution and courtesy to avoid wake damage and property erosion. Boaters and recreational watercraft users are advised to stay off the South Thompson River where the river closure remains. Residents should also be aware that lifeguards are currently not stationed at Riverside Park due to unsafe swimming conditions and fencing limiting river access.
Residents are also advised that the Dallas pedestrian underpass connecting Furrer Road to Todd Hill Crescent is now open.
Residents are reminded that beginning the week of July 9th, the City of Kamloops is offering sandbag pick up for residents. Similar to garbage collection, residents must place the sandbags in the same curbside location where they would typically place their garbage containers. Sandbags will be picked up the business day following regular scheduled garbage collection as per the City of Kamloops collection schedule. All sandbags must be placed at the curbside location by 7:00 a.m. the day of the sandbag pick up.
Alternatively, residents may drop sandbags off at the Mission Flats or Barnhartvale landfills at no charge, effective immediately. Where sandbags have not been picked up after 5 business days, residents are asked to call Public Works at 250-828-3461 and provide their address so that arrangements can be made for pick up.
