February is Heart Month
Kamloops, B.C. - Join the City of Kamloops in celebrating the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Heart Month campaign with events going on throughout February:
- Skate Your Heart Out: On February 11th, join us for a Valentine's Day Skate with great prizes for those who dress up in their best pink and red outfit.
This $2 event will take place at Brock Arena from 2:15 - 4:00 pm. All proceeds raised will benefit the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
- Put Your Heart Into It!: Attend two City of Kamloops fitness classes per week each week in February and enter to win a draw prize. Draw box and
ballots available at the Tournament Capital Centre.
- CBC Live Right Now: The City of Kamloops is also striving to become the Live Right Now Capital of Canada as part of the Live Right Now initiative
by CBC. Residents can track all they are doing to stay healthy and active through the CBC's Live Right Now Application on Facebook at apps.facebook.com/liverightnow,
and contribute to Kamloops being named the Live Right Now Capital.
- Pickleball Drop-in: Throughout February, pickleball drop-in will take place on the TCC track to promote regular physical activity for heart
and stroke prevention. All proceeds go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
- Healthy Hearts Fair: This inaugural event will take place on February 24th between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm in the TCC Lobby. Residents will have the
opportunity to learn about healthy choices, AED operation, CPR training and emergency response! This fair also includes the Happy Hearts Pro-D Swim, which
is a $2 swim with all attractions open. Residents can have the opportunity to try out the TCC's Keiser Spin Bikes during The Spin Your Heart Out Marathon,
taking place in the TCC Lobby. Last of all; don't forget to dress red during this Healthy Hearts Fair!
In conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of the Rick Hansen Man in Motion Tour, take part of some of the following Heart Month activities:
- Skaters in Motion: On February 25th, skate some laps at Brock Arena in celebration of the Man in Motion Tour.
- Swimmers in Motion: The goal of this challenge is to collectively swim 1.6 million pool lengths between January 1st and March 29th to commemorate
the Man in Motion Tour by swimming the equivalent distance (40,000 km) completed by Rick Hansen in 1987. The Downtown YMCA, the Canada Games Aquatic Centre and
Westsyde Pool and Community Centre are participating pools, with admission at regular rates.
- Many in Motion: This challenge, which is ongoing until March 29th, is to collectively walk, run or roll 12,000 kilometers. Tracking sheets are posted at TCC
Indoor Track.
