Kamloops, B.C. – In the spring of 2011, Kamloops Fire Rescue submitted brass hose couplings to the Harman Foundry in Red Deer, Alberta. These hose couplings have been in service at KFR since the early 1960s. Last week, KFR was informed that these couplings will be using in the casting of the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Ottawa.
This memorial has been in the works for over a decade and is scheduled to officially open in 2012. The bronze elements are scheduled to be completed in March 2012 and delivered to Ottawa in early April. The official dedication of the new memorial and remembrance ceremony will take place in September 2012. This will be the first memorial for firefighters across Canada, allowing them a place in Ottawa to honour those who gave their lives serving their communities.
The bronze elements are being manufactured in Red Deer, Alberta at the Harman Foundry. The Harman Foundry has done some significant works in the past such as the Terry Fox Memorials in Ottawa and Vancouver, and the Parliament Hill bronze statue of Queen Elizabeth on horseback.
