Kamloops, B.C. - Effective October 1 through October 31, 2011 inclusive, open burning of yard and garden waste on properties of one acre (43,560 square feet) or greater within the City of Kamloops and Kamloops Indian Band is permitted upon obtaining a permit.
Applications for burning yard and garden waste within the City of Kamloops must be made at Fire Station No. 1, 1205 Summit Drive, Monday to Friday 8 am – 4 pm. No permit will be issued on weekends and/or holidays. A fee of $50.00 will be charged for yard and garden waste permits, cheques or cash only. Please bring the exact amount as change may not be available.
Applications for burning within the Kamloops Indian Band should be made at the Band’s Lands, Leasing & Tax Department, at 250-828-9708.
Effective November 1, 2011 through March 31, 2012 inclusive, burning of wood debris from Pine Beetle clean-up, Land Clearing, and Farm Status will be permitted on properties of one acre (43,560 square feet) or greater within the City of Kamloops and Kamloops Indian Band upon obtaining a permit. There is no charge for Pine Beetle and Farm Status permits, but Fire Rescue personnel must conduct a site visit before issuing a permit. Those requesting a Pine Beetle permit are required to phone Fire Station No. 1 at 250-372-5131 or visit www.kamloops.ca/firerescue/firehome.shtml to arrange for a site visit.
Failure to obtain the necessary permit or to comply with the conditions of the permit may result in a $500 fine. This includes, but is not limited to, burning outside Venting Index, burning after hours, and burning without a permit.
Visit www.kamloops.ca/firerescue/firehome.shtml or call 250-372-5131 after 8 am for an updated Venting Index. Open burning for Commercial and Industrial purposes and on properties less than one acre is prohibited.
For residents with properties less than one acre, the following green disposal methods are recommended:
Compost as much material as possible on your own property; or
