Punjabi Diabetes Forum pilots in Kamloops

Kamloops, B.C. - The Strategic Health Alliance, comprised of the City of Kamloops Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department and Interior Health, in partnership with iCON, is offering a public forum on diabetes and mental wellness targeted at South Asians in the Kamloops area. iCON, or the interCultural Online Health Network, seeks to assist multicultural citizens, patients, and care givers in BC to optimize chronic disease prevention and management. The UBC Faculty of Medicine will be presenting the forum live in Vancouver, and as part of a pilot project, Kamloops will be a satellite location for the forum, with the panel connecting via a live webcast to citizens in Kamloops.

The seminar will be offered in Punjabi and targeted at Punjabi-speaking South Asians currently at risk for or diagnosed with diabetes. A panel of health experts will speak on diabetes prevention, diagnosis, treatment, management and optimization of mental wellness in children and adults. The seminar will include a question and answer period where participants are able to ask and have their questions answered live by the panel.

The forum will take place on March 27th, from 12:30 until 4:30pm at the Gurdwara Sahib Kamloops at 700 Cambridge Crescent, with local experts, including a dietitian, mental health practitioner, diabetes specialist and nurse practitioner also on hand to answer any questions.

The Strategic Health Alliance is pleased to be the pilot site for this forum, as it connects Kamloops citizens to a wealth of expertise in the Lower Mainland and opens the door for future opportunities for similar seminars.

Participants can pre-register by calling 250-825-3500 or visiting and quoting course number 172832, however walk-ins are welcome, or citizens can join the live webcast online at
