Kamloops, B.C. - City of Kamloops Museum Curator Dennis Oomen has recently been requested to chair the British Columbia Museums Association Awards Committee. The BCMA presents a number of awards and bursaries to deserving individuals and organizations under their Museums in Motion Awards Program. These include an Award of Merit, a Distinguished Service Award and a Corporate Service Award. Each award recognizes unique and outstanding contributions to the province's heritage community. The Committee presents the awards at annual conferences held in various locations across the province. The BCMA awards program was inaugurated in 1971, and one of the first recipients was Mary Balf, a former director of the Kamloops Museum. Oomen welcomes the opportunity to help honour his museum friends and colleagues.
Dennis Oomen has also been asked to share his exhibit expertise with BC's museum community. The British Columbia Museum Associationís quarterly journal, the 'Roundup', will feature exhibit tips and tricks from curators, designers and exhibit builders from across the province in its next issue. Oomen's exhibit expertise is on display at the Canadian Museum of Civilisation, the Glenbow Museum and most recently at the new third floor exhibits at the Kamloops Museum.
