Mary Spencer, Photographer

February 27 - October 2, 2015

Mary Spencer (1857 – 1938)
Between 1899 and 1909, she produced some of the most stunning photographs ever taken of Kamloops and the surrounding area. A prolific photographer and artist, Mary Spencer remains relatively unknown for her lasting contribution in a pioneer field of women photographers. Her portraits reflect honest vulnerabilities and sometimes humorous snapshots of a community on the threshold of change as the formal assurances of the Victorian era gave way to a new world.
