Community Network Supports Economic Development
Making Kamloops Shine: Economic Investment
The City of Kamloops operates the Kamloops Community Network (KCN), a system of 50 kilometers of fibre optic cable. The KCN was built to service City and customer data communication requirements as a ‘dark fibre network’. The KCN provides connections between points on the network with dedicated fibre strands. These strands are then leased to individual customers and lit with equipment they supply. Because strands are dedicated to a single customer the KCN offers security and capacity that cannot be matched by conventional switched networks.
The KCN is available by lease to customers who can demonstrate economic or other benefits to Kamloops. If your business has multiple sites in Kamloops near the network, the KCN can provide point to point communications at light speed. Proposals for extensions to the network are welcome. The KCN interconnects to BCNet and can give your business access to competitive carriers offering services such as internet, telephony, private wide area networks, and to Canada’s Advanced Research and Innovation Network (CANARIE).
The Kamloops Community Network is another City initiative to Make Kamloops Shine.
