Pride
Our corporate value of Pride is encouraged among all employees.

Staff Involvement
Encouraging involvement in our community is important at the City of Kamloops.

A Community in Bloom
As a reflection of its confidence in its staff’s abilities and talents, the City empowers employees to take ownership of projects. Gardeners do not just plant flowers, they are allowed free rein in designing the City’s award winning gardens. The entire community was invited to help plant the ‘Marigold Mile’.

Our City pride and hard working commitment was rewarded when the City of Kamloops became the 2006 International Champion of the Communities in Bloom competition.

Community Events
Staff members are visible at community events throughout the year, including the Run for the Cure, Terry Fox Run, Relay for Life, Walk to Cure Diabetes, Mountie Stomp, Strikes for Tykes, and other fundraising efforts.

Some of the innovative ways that we help in our community are:

Leading by Excellence
The City of Kamloops is proud of its achievements and continually strives for excellence. Our staff includes dedicated, hardworking professionals, many of which lead the province in applying their skills in municipal government. Some of our recent awards are as follows:

Award of Merit for Engineering Excellence
Received for our leading-edge water treatment facility which provides clean and accessible drinking water to residents and visitors.

Communities in Bloom National Champion
Kamloops was judged best of nine cities with a population of 50,000 – 100,000. Communities in Bloom is a national program which was established to foster civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification through community participation and the challenge of friendly competition.

National Quality Institute – Level II Progressive Excellence Program
Level II is the second phase of a rigorous four-level certification process established by the National Quality Institute (NQI). This level examines the City’s approach to leadership, planning, customer service, employee satisfaction, process management, and partnering.

Safe Community
Many City employees have families that work and play in our community and making our City as safe as possible benefits all of us. One of our City employees is presently working with CUPE Local 900 to be a major sponsor for the Kamloops Injury Prevention (KIP) Network to promote safety in our community. The City of Kamloops is the first city in British Columbia to officially launch our Safe Community Program.

Innovation in the field of Geographic Information
Awarded by the Environmental Systems Research Institute for the implementation and operation of GIS in capturing underground water, drainage, and sanitary sewer utility data as 3-dimensional coordinates. This increases both the accuracy of the data and the efficiency of maintaining that data, and also allows users much greater flexibility in how that data is used operationally. The main benefit of this approach is that it provides employees with the skills they need to ask their own questions of the GIS, which results in greater worker efficiency and job satisfaction.

Environmental Leadership
The City of Kamloops is committed to reducing the impact of greenhouse gas, and participated in an innovative program developed by BC Hydro by purchasing Green Power Certificates to promote green energy development. We are always looking at ways to put our principles into action and were rewarded for our environmental practices by being presented the BC Hydro Commitment to Environmental Leadership and Sustainability award in 2004. We believe green energy holds great promise for our environment, our economy, and our community.
