Human Resources
Customer Service for all front line staff

Innovation
Improving customer service is part of our journey towards excellence is a corporate value we strive towards.

Here are some of the unique approaches we've taken.

Adopting Private Sector Standards
Many of our employees have completed “Customers Are First Training” to enhance their communication skills with the public and with their coworkers.

We partnered with Sun Peaks Delta Hotel, a leading 4.5 star hotel known for their customer service, to better understand their philosophy.

A delegation of our front line employees participated in a job shadowing opportunity at Sun Peaks Delta Hotel and has since created the customer service standards for our entire organization.

Leading The Province, Leading The Nation
Another customer service improvement initiative is the introduction of BizPal, a web-based service that allows business clients to easily generate a customized list of the permits and licences they require from all levels of government. BizPal offers our employees greater job satisfaction knowing that they have an authoritative source to use to respond to client questions as well as the opportunity to work on a leading edge inter-jurisdictional project. Kamloops’ participation in this inter-governmental project is the result of an employee suggestion and organizing initiative to bring Kamloops as a test pilot into the project.

Forging Unique Partnerships
Our, new, state-of-the-art Kamloops Centre for Water Quality offered a significant internal training opportunity in leading edge technology for some of our employees. Rather than hiring all the required technologists from outside our workforce, we also decided to “grow our own” and created two training opportunities to allow employees to participate in this leading edge training. Due to the efforts of our staff, a unique partnership between the City of Kamloops, Thompson Rivers University, and Zenon was formed to create a research and training centre for safe water excellence.

Annual Calendar
In a coordinated effort, City employees put together a calendar which was delivered to every household showcasing our spectacular scenery and highlighting our services and events.

KFRS Training Centre
When the City of Kamloops Fire and Rescue service needed a new training center, we saw a skills development opportunity and created a process to allow all of our firefighters to become certified as trainers and for others to obtain and maintain their training without leaving home.
