Curbside Recycling Program
Please set your containers out by 7 a.m. for collection.
The collection routes have changed and call back service is not available. Space the containers at least 3 feet apart.
There must be room for the collection arm on the truck to reach around the container. Please make sure the materials are
loose in the container. Some larger items such as cardboard boxes need to be broken down so they will easily fall from the
container. If they are too large they may create a wedge during the tipping process and trap materials inside.
Organic materials such as food scraps, yard waste and grass clippings are NOT collected in the curbside recycling program. Please take yard waste and grass clippings to the drop-off depots, and consider composting your food scraps in a backyard composter. Scrap metals such as car parts, hangers, clothing stands are NOT collected in the curbside recycling program. Please visit the Recyclopedia web site for alternative options.
Thank you again Kamloops, and happy recycling!
What to Recycle
An Information Brochure is available that provides
additional details about the program and includes a list of Acceptable and Unacceptable items to recycle. All materials
should be clean and free from contamination.
Set out your recycling container on the same day as your garbage collection. Do not over fill container. Container lids must be closed to ensure proper collection.
The Basics of Collection:
Container Size
All recycling containers are the same size (245 Litres). You are not required to set your recycling out every week,
but we recommend if it is half full or more, you set it out for collection. The size of container was determined from the
pilot study that was conducted in 2005 and should be able to accommodate an ‘average’ household’s recycling needs for 2
weeks, but there are many variables that will determine how quickly your household would fill the container.
Bear Aware
It is important for all residents to ensure your container is out before 7 am since the truck routes will be
changing with the new program. Remember that the bear bylaw is in effect from April 1st to November 30th. Please
do not set out containers before 4 am.
Solid Waste Hotline: 828-3374
Annual Rate
The annual fee for the recycling containers will be $36.30 and will appear on your utility statements along with sewer, water and garbage fees. This fee will include the lease of a wheeled container and collection of its recyclable contents. Garbage and recyclables will be collected on a weekly basis.
