Garbage & Recycling

There are two landfills operated by the City (Mission Flats and Barnhartvale) and one under the jurisdiction of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (Heffley Creek) Mission Flats is the only landfill that handles recycling for glass, paper, cardboard, plastics, and other scrap materials.

Mission Flats Landfill

Hours of Operation
Seven days per week - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day

Tipping Fees

Mission Flats Disposal Rates
Loads less than or equal to 100 kgs	$5.00 per load
Loads greater than 100 kgs	$60.00 per tonne
Asbestos*	$150.00 per tonne
Carcasses and offal*	$150.00 per tonne
Asphalt and Concrete (no rebar)	$5.00 per tonne
Concrete with rebar for recycle	$10.00 per tonne
Appliances containing Freon	$10.00 per item (pay at Drop & Shop)
Clean Fill (with declaration from source)	Free (no charge)

* All loads less than or equal to 250 kg will be charged a minimum fee of $50 to reflect the special handling required for these commodities.

Mixed loads will be charged at the higher rate based on refuse type.

Services:

Recycle: Newspaper, corrugated cardboard, lead acid batteries, scrap metal, tires, white goods, propane tanks (20 lb).

Consumer Product Stewardship Program: Accepts solvents, flammable liquids, pesticides, gasoline, paint. (These products must be in their original containers.)

Landfill: Everything else that cannot be re-used or recycled.

Barnhartvale Landfill
This facility is for Residential use only and open year round.
Commercial haulers must use Mission Flats Landfill.
