References and Police Records Check
This process will be repeated approximately every 12 months (or sooner) as

take place in the spring of each year.
All applications must be submitted on or before the closing date of the competition. Only those applications that meet all of the required qualifications will be considered. You must complete all of the required qualifications prior to the closing date.
The selection committee will limit the number of applicants that will proceed to the next stage based on the criteria as set out in the required qualifications. Additional points will be awarded to applicants based on the criteria as set out in the preferred qualifications.
A pool of candidates will be invited to participate in the testing stage. These candidates must bring in a completed Physical Fitness Assessment Doctor's Consent Form and the Physical Performance Assessment Waiver Form contained in the application package.
There are three components in the testing stage of the application process. Candidates must pass each one of these components to be eligible to proceed to the interview stage. All applicants will require photo identification to access each of the testing stages of the recruitment process.
1. Physical Testing
Applicants are required to pay $100.00 (cash only) to the Administrator upon arrival.

requirements. Failure to satisfy any one of the swimming requirements will result
in elimination from the hiring process.

complete each timed event in the allotted time or less.
Upon completion of the physical testing, all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be advised of the time, date, and location to write the written tests.

Applicants will be tested on their knowledge of firefighting, based on IFSTA Essentials
- 5th Edition. Applicants must achieve 70 per cent or better in order to proceed with
further testing.
3. General Abilities, Interests, and Personality Testing
Only selected applicants who have successfully completed the written knowledge test
with 70 per cent or better and the physical test will be invited to write a general
abilities, interests, and personality test. This test will indicate a general suitability
for the career of firefighting. Applicants must achieve a suitability score of 70 per
cent or better to be considered for the interview stage.
Representatives of Kamloops Fire Rescue and the City of Kamloops Human Resources Department will interview the applicants. The City of Kamloops will select a pool of candidates from those who achieved the minimum qualifications on the required tests to move on to the interview phase.
Successful applicants will be contacted by the Human Resources Department and invited to attend an interview.
An eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies with Kamloops Fire Rescue. A new recruitment drive will be held as often as required to meet the needs of Kamloops Fire Rescue.
Candidates from any previous lists will have to re-qualify and may or may not be selected for future lists.
Unsuccessful applicants, who were interviewed, will be notified that the competition has been completed.
The City of Kamloops Human Resources Department will contact individuals on the list to finalize the process, as vacancies with Kamloops Fire Rescue occur.
