The Terasen Gas Environmental Mind Grind (EMG) is an exciting jeopardy-style environmental trivia contest that tests the knowledge of grades 4 to 12 students on environmental issues in honour of Earth Day. Teams sign up in January and have until mid-April to learn the study package information.

Elementary and Middle School Categories compete for $500 for 1st place for their school on April 17th at Aberdeen Mall and $100 for 2nd place for their class, including trendy vests or hats. All participants receive an official Environmental Mind Grind T-shirt and a prize package. Winning elementary and middle school category teams advance to the BC Playoffs for a chance to win $1000 for their school. High school students will compete only at the Provincial level for a chance at winning $1000 per participant (maximum $3000) towards their post secondary education.

Participating teachers have claimed that the event not only "motivated students to learn more" but the information was a "teaching package fully prepared" that "fit very well with the curriculum."
