Agriculture Area Plan
The recently adopted Sustainable Kamloops Plan identified the need for the City of Kamloops to gain a better understanding on where viable agricultural land exists, how it should be used or enhanced, and what opportunities are available for increased food production and processing. To answer these questions a decision was made to develop an Agriculture Area Plan for the City of Kamloops.
Agriculture is historically significant in the City of Kamloops, shaping both its development pattern and its economy. The primary purpose of developing an Agriculture Area Plan (AAP) is to establish updated and more defined policies that will protect and promote agriculture and encourage sustainable agricultural practices. The plan will focus on our community's farm areas to identify opportunities and practical solutions so we can strengthen agriculture and ultimately contribute to our community's long-term sustainability.
Vision & Mission
The Agriculture Advisory Committee drafted a vision and mission based on feedback
received from community surveys, a farm tour, and discussions with City staff and agricultural consultants. The vision and mission meet the intent of an Agriculture
Area Plan and are linked to the sustainability theme as the Agriculture Area Plan is a priority of the overarching Sustainable Kamloops Plan. It is anticipated that
the vision and mission could change slightly as the planning process evolves and public consultation is completed.

For detailed information on food security and urban agriculture, please refer to the Kamloops Social Plan. The Social Plan is slated for review and update in 2013 through 2014. It is anticipated that this stakeholder-driven process will result in a much more detailed urban agriculture component in the Social Plan.
